Trace Willans is an Australian textile artist. She only uses only natural fibres and materials in her work: some recycled, natural dyes, earth pigments, food products.

Counterweave currently has a number of pieces from Trace’s 2016 exhibition Fragments.

Trace Willans fragments

Each fragment measures 12 x 18 cm and uses traditional gesso, charcoal, ink, natural pigments, egg, encaustic medium, cold wax medium,  Xanthorrhoea resin and methylated spirits and hand stitch in cotton/silk thread on recycled cotton sheeting.

My Art is all about walking lightly on the earth. I have an ongoing mission to continuously refine my arts practice to be as ecologically sustainable and environmentally friendly as possible. I use only natural fibres and materials, some recycled, natural dyes, earth pigments, food products in the making of my work.

I am currently engaged in the pursuit of an all-natural arts practice. I happily spend my time playing with flour, milk, eggs, beeswax  and natural pigments as well as obtaining colour from the plants that surround me.
